NICOLAE MANOLESCU Nicolae Manolescu (b.1939), the undisputed patriarch of Romanian literature, is a critic, professor and publisher, who in a career spanning more than 50 years has authored some of the most influential books of literary criticism and literary history in postwar Romania. Not shy of public office, Professor Manolescu is the president of the Romanian Writers Union, member of the Romanian Academy and Ambassador to UNESCO.
