The opening of the 'Architecture and Royalty' exhibition, followed by the projection of the documentary 'Royal Residences in Romania' (narrated by academician Răzvan Theodorescu) and a conversation with professors Augustin Ioan and Marius Marcu-Lapadat offer a thorough exploration of the architectural masterpieces created under the aegis of the Romanian Royal Family.  more

MARIN SORESCU'S 'JONAH', THE ELEGIAC PARABLE OF HUMAN CONDITION, AT THE RCI

Directed by American Sharon Willems and starring Romanian actor Alin Balaşcan, the performance preserves the signature balance between lyricism and irony so characteristic to the great poet and playwright Marin Sorescu (1936-1996) while offering a highly contemporary take, full of imagery and humour, of the story of the prophet-fisherman caught in the belly of the huge fish.  more

Angels, Adolescents and Trucks: New Romanian Books in English
One of the most praised debuts of the last years, Nicolae-Constantin Tănase's disturbing, pessimistic 'The World is Mine', will screen within our Romanian Cinematheque.

The intensity of the performances, the documentary-like realism and the relevance of the topic make it one of the most poignant films about growing up in the turbulent peripheries of Romanian big cities in recent times.

Followed by Q&A via Skype.
Free entry. Please book your seat here.
In Romanian with English subtitles.

Mesmerising Duo Lucian Ban and Mat Maneri in the Enescu Concert Series | Thu 4 May, 7pm - free
Enescu - the jazz way
The Romanian Cultural Institute and The Enescu Society in Great Britain
cordially invite you to

RCI London, Thursday 4 May, 7pm

Lucian Ban - piano
Mat Maneri - viola

"melancholy, beauty and wayward exuberance" (The Guardian
"moments of unanticipated beauty" (All About Jazz)
"mesmerising, evocative and sensually explicit" (L.A. Weekly)

Free. Seats allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Please book your seat on Eventbrite
The concert is the first jazz event in our popular `Enescu Series` but George Enescu is as present as ever thanks to Lucian Ban and Mat Maneri's skillful  reinterpretations of some of his great compositions such as "Impression d'enfance" Suite, Orchestral Suite no. 1 and Sonata no. 3 "in Romanian folk style". Another major source of inspiration for the brilliant duo is the ancient "doina", the Romanian traditional musical genre included in the UNESCO heritage.
