Adoption of the EESC opinion SOC/603 "European Solidarity Corps" / Adoption de l'avis du CESE "Corps européen de solidarité"

Click here if you are having trouble viewing this message.   Dear Madam, Dear Sir,    At its 538th plenary session, held on 17 and 18 October 2018, the European Economic and Social Committee adopted the following opinion, available in all language versions: SOC/603 - European Solidarity Corps In its opinion, the EESC welcomes the commitment to the renewed European Solidarity Corps (ESC) with an increased budget and target for participation. It also appreciates the merging with the EU Aid Volunteers. The Committee believes that in the future, the EU needs to develop two independent support programmes, one for youth and one for volunteering. The EESC makes a series of concrete recommendations, such as:   1)  the employment strand of the ECS needs to be subject to strict regulation and regular review; 2)  there should be no age restriction on the ESC as it should be a support for volunteering; 3)  the ESC should be restricted to the not for profit sector; 4)  the main civil society platforms in the field (the European Youth Forum and the European Volunteering Centre) should be centrally involved in the regulation and oversight of the ESC.   Yours sincerely,    Christa Schweng President of the Section for Employment, Social Affairs and Citizenship (SOC) Chère Madame, Cher Monsieur,   Lors de sa 538e session plénière des 17 et 18 octobre 2018, le Comité économique et social européen a adopté l'avis suivant, disponible dans toutes les versions linguistiques:   SOC/603 - Corps européen de solidarité   Dans son avis, le CESE se félicite de l'engagement en faveur du Corps européen de solidarité (CES) renouvelé, dont le budget est augmenté et la participation élargie. Il apprécie également la fusion avec l'initiative des volontaires de l'aide de l'Union européenne. Le Comité estime qu'à l'avenir, l'UE devra développer deux programmes de soutien indépendants, l'un destiné aux jeunes et l'autre au volontariat. Click here if you are having trouble viewing this message.   Dear Madam, Dear Sir,    At its 533rd plenary session, held on 14 and 15 March 2018, the European Economic and Social Committee adopted the following opinion, available in all language versions: SOC/558 - Employment guidelines   This opinion is on the revision of the Guidelines for the employment policies of the Member States, which provide common priorities and targets for employment policies of the Member States. The European Commission has proposed to amend the 2015 Guidelines, to align the text with the principles of the European pillar of social rights. Click here if you are having trouble viewing this message.   Dear Madam, Dear Sir,    At its 534th plenary session, held on 18 and 19 April 2018, the European Economic and Social Committee adopted the following opinion, available in all language versions: SOC/571 - EU Action Plan 2017-2019 - Tackling the gender pay gap   The EESC welcomes the efforts made by the EC to address the persistent pay gap between men and women by proposing an Action Plan with eight areas for action, but finds that each area should be further developed. It is important to look at the stereotypes that affect career choices, as well as to the underlying causes of labour market segregation, in order to counter them. It agrees with the EC proposal for pay transparency and pay audits to be introduced in order to facilitate the collection of individualised data and develop appropriate action plans at sector and business level. Moreover, it welcomes the EC recognition of the crucial role social partners play in this, while also highlighting the contribution of civil society organisations. Il est important d'examiner les stéréotypes qui affectent les choix de carrière, ainsi que les causes sous-jacentes de la ségrégation sur le marché du travail, afin de les contrer. Il est d'accord avec la proposition de la CE en matière de transparence des rémunérations et d'audits des rémunérations qui doit être introduite afin de faciliter la collecte de données individualisées et de développer des plans d'action appropriés au niveau sectoriel et des entreprises. En outre, il se félicite que la CE reconnaisse le rôle crucial que jouent les partenaires sociaux dans ce domaine, tout en soulignant la contribution des organisations de la société civile. Call for Applications Cultural Diplomacy in the Commonwealth 2018 » "Cultural Diplomacy as a Means to Build Bridges between the Commonwealth & the World" London; April 16th - 20th, 2018
Conference Overview The Commonwealth is an intergovernmental organization of 53 member states, which covers almost a quarter of the world's entire land area and serves as an influential regional player in global political, economic and cultural affairs. The Commonwealth has a rich and diverse experience of best practices in cultural diplomacy and for this reason serves as a good organization in which to hold an International Symposium. In addition, the Commonwealth constitutes a global community where all members have an equal voice regardless of their size and population. Such a community, with its shared values and history, is the ideal forum for fostering mutual understanding and cooperation through cultural exchange and open dialogue.  The Academy for Cultural Diplomacy has therefore created the conference in order to build on this past experience and to formulate new initiatives, which will strengthen international relations and encourage cooperation between diverse communities based upon values of peace, democracy, human rights and the rule of law within the Commonwealth of Nations.  The event will address issues related to cultural diplomacy in the region, and look for methods by which cultural bridges and dialogue can be improved between the Commonwealth and the rest of the world.
Conference Locations The Symposium is based in a number of important political, historic, and cultural locations across London such as House of Lords.
Conference Participants » Participation in the conference is open to governmental & diplomatic officials, academics, artists, journalists, civil society practitioners, private sector representatives, young professionals and students as well as other interested individuals from across the world. Certificate of Attendance - All conference participants will be awarded an official certificate of attendance upon completion of the program, which will provide details of the speakers who took part and the topics discussed.

Participants would take part in a week-long, online platform, uploading videos and answering questions about their cooking and shopping practices, and to thank them for their participation would receive £100.
