The Icon: the Life-giving Water of the Romanian Orthodoxy presents a collection of Christian Orthodox icons by Romanian artist Aurelia Chiriac Carabinieru.

The exhibition aims to promote the Romanian spiritual tradition of Byzantine iconography. Aurelia Chiriac Carabinieru’s icons, tempera-painted on wood with applied gold leaf, reflect the perfect symbiosis between the mundane and the sacred world of angels. The icons are an invitation to thought and contemplation.

Part of the icons on display belong to the collections of St Gheorge’s Church in London and Stefan cel Mare si Sfanti Church in Poole, Dorset. New works will go to the same collections at the end of the exhibition, from 20 November.

The artist Aurelia Chiriac Carabinieru and the Priest Ioan Sarpe from the Church of "Pogorirea Sfintului Duh", London will present a talk on Orthodox iconography before the private view .

Aurelia Chiriac Carabinieru graduated from the University of Psychology and Social Assistance Iasi with a degree in aesthetics. Together with the Foster Care Centre Bucium in Iasi she founded a Iconography Centre for children with creative skills. Their works were awarded the first place in the international exhibition Life Always Prevail in Tel Aviv. Currently her icons are exhibited in monasteries and churches in Romania and England.

The exhibition is organised by the ‘Romanca’ Society with support from the Romanian Embassy, the Romanian Cultural Institute in London, Sf Gheorghe Church, London and Stefan cel Mare si Sfint Church, Poole.

In prezent, icoanele artistei sunt expuse in manastiri si biserici din Romania si Anglia.

Expozitia este organizata de Societatea Romanca cu sprijinul Ambasadei Romaniei, Institutului Cultural Roman, al Bisericii Sf Gheorghe din Londra si al Bisericii Stefan cel Mare si Sfint din Pool.
